Very little, except historically. Both refer to a single ruler.

A monarchy is usually inherited by lieneage.

A dictator usually seizes or holds power by force of arms.

But those aspects are secondary to the core definitions.

Monarchy is like Queen Elizabeth passed down from the family, they don't dictate. You know that fella they call George Bush that is your Dictator. You have no Democracy, the rule and no laws predict anything they are the complete decider. They way are alike is no votes count , Queen don't have a election, Dictators have one but the votes don't count except for them , you know like Saddam you win always. The other people that are permitted to run their votes are thrown away like Gore and Kerry.

A Monarchy may be a dictatorship if it runs the country that way, but in effect a monarchy is just a type of government structure. A dictator has real power, he may or may not be a monarch but can and will put you in prison or kill you if you oppose him.
