i'm a sophomore in high school but i'm taking college math and semester will be my last year of math, my major is Bussiness Adm. and i'm currently taking Calculus and I was wondering whether I should take Calculus 2 or Statistics. Everyone's telling me to take Statistics because it's good for my major but I think I should take Calculus 2 because it'll look good on my transcript. What should I take?

Why can't you take them both at some time or another? Both would look great on the transcript.

First, if you are taking calculus as a sophomore, and doing reasonably well at it, then you have good mathematical ability and should seriously consider continuing your math throughout high school, even if your interest is business. The extra math knowledge can be an asset in your business education and in your business career.

It is true that the statistics would be good for your business major, and it is also true that having a year of calculus behind you would look good on your transcript (the statistics class would not look bad on the transcript either).

Therefore, if you can manage to take both before you graduate, I would do that. If not, and if you are doing well in calculus 1, I would complete the second semester of calculus.

The reason is that you probably will want to eventually take calculus 2 anyway (the topics are very different from calculus 1), and it will make more sense right after calculus 1 than it will after a gap of a couple of years.

Also, having a year of calculus will make it possible for you to handle a more sophisticated (calculus based) statistics or econometrics course in college, if you decide you want that. It will not work the other way aound -- knowing statistics will not help you with calculus 2 in college.

I say try to do both --- but go for Calculus II. You already have the experience...you really don't want to put too much space inbetween taking Cal I and Cal II, or Cal II and Cal III, etc.

Wait to see if you need Statistics. If you don't, then you'll be fine. If you need it, then just take it at a later date. Either way, you'll be fine.

Good luck!
