Apparently there is controversy regarding the reasoning behind people suffering from self-mutilation, there are several reasons they believe it happens from 'false memories of their past' to 'attention seeking' etc etc.

Heaps of web sites with everyones opinions - just type in self mutilation controversy into google and there are heaps of sites.

There is even information on Angeline Jollie and her claims of self mutilation which caused all sorts of controversy.

Perhaps different types of treatment for self-mutilation

How about self-flagellation?? It's a belief that some hard core Christians and Catholics believe in. There's TONS of controversy surrounding it.

and if you don't know self-flagellation is punishing oneself by flogging or mutilation...

You can find all the info you want on the web.

There is a form of art that is causing controversy. Scarring, which is done at some licensed tattoo studios, is a form of mutilation that involves cutting the body to form patterns, which when the skin heals, can make the scar look like a flower, bird, or any other pattern. People pay to have this done, and it is done with blades that involve deep cutting to make a certain type of scar that doesn't fade over time. I don't personally agree with this, although I do have tattoos and piercings. The controversy is whether studios are making money from mutilating people, or if it is a different art form itself.

Try researching this subject on the Internet for a controversy.
