this is what i did.
washed my ear with warm soap water
wet a clean washcloth in cold water. and clothe makes it easier to hold ice cubes
put in two ice cubes one for the front and one for the back
while numbing my ear i had the studs soaking in rub alcohol
use quality ones for new holes
when the ear is numb enough
just use the stud and poke it through the ear...be quick and i won't say if there going to be pain..everyone different. don't know if your piercing the top of the ear..that may hurt if you do it yourself.
remember to take the studs out at least once a day to clean them and the ear lobe. just put them back in and use the studs for about 4 to 6 weeks before using other ear rings.
i pierced my own ears at age 14..now i'm 37 and i never had the holes become infected. i don't use rubbing alcohol any more..instead ear piercing solution...claire's boutique carry it.

I've pierced both of my ear lobes 3 times each, it's perfectly safe.

1. Locate a needle or pin. (Safety pins have worked for me, it's entirely up to you)
2. Disinfect needle with rubbing alcohol.
3. Disinfect the earlobe with rubbing alcohol as well.
4. Place ice over the area for about 5 minutes.
5. Remove ice
6. Push needle through the ear.

It works best if you just do it quickly and try not to think about it too much.

7. Remove needle
8. Sterilize an earring (make sure it's a quality metal, ex: surgical steel, this prevents any possible allergic reaction to more common posts like sterling silver)
9. Put the disinfected earring in the hole
10. Clean 2-3 times a day with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide for a few weeks.

I won't say this method is painless, but it's honestly not that bad.

I have never gotten any infections or problems.

The only difference is the speed at which the needle is put through your ear at Claire's. Seriously.

Good Luck, Have fun. :]

here is what i did:

1.got ice in a freezer bag, places it on my ear for 20mins
2.marked where i wanted both my piercings (on the same ear)
3.got some tissue at hand (have a towel just incase also)
4.look in the mirror so you can see!!
5. purchase a 1.2mm (or personal preference of gauge) needle. costs about £1 ($2) off ebay.
6. push the needle through slowly, pull back out slowly, keeping steady and as straight as you can.
7.push jewellery in the piercing. and make sure for god sake the jewellery is light!! or it will droop badly believe me
8.clean the blood away and tada!!

some extra helpful hints, if your friend is piercing it for you (my friend did my ear once) drink a lot of alcohol! i personally drank scotch but its up to you. but before you do, mark where you want your piercing and make sure your friend doesnt tough the alcohol!! :)

and if your thinking that it will work just fine without purchasing a professional piercing needle then you're wrong. my friend split her ear open and it was disgusting!

some helpful hints! hope ive helped

I was told to put a cold potato on the back of it?! I don't exactly know why a potato ( I think it is just to protect your fingers in the back)

OK this is what I did:
I put a potato in the fridge until it got cold
I got a big needle and sterilized it with alcohol
After the potato was cold I cleaned and cut it in half
I placed the potato behind my ear and poked the needle through to the potato!
I would suggest using the ice to numb it, I didn't but I am extremely tolerable to pain!
After you are done it is best to put the piercing type earrings in your ears and keep them in for a while

Wish you the best and I hope your ears don't fall off LOL :)

WEll, its not near as safe as having it done by a profesional, but if the needle is sanitary, and your ears have good history(no large amounts of ear infections, been pierced and then got infected or closed up, or if you have scars on your ears) then you should be ok. however, if there sore for more than three days, watch them closly, if there sore for more than a week, see a doctor. Also, keep them clean, wash your ears every night. Thuroghly clean a needle, also, get a peice of lemon. get a pen and make marks on your ears for where you waant them, make sure they're semetrical. swob the front and back of your ear with alchol. place the lemon behind your ear (have a moist towel handy) line the needle with the dot, cleanly push through, than rather quickly pull out. Incert earing (must be stud) then hold moist towel over it until pail subsides, repeat on other ear.

I did my second holes at home and had no trouble. If you still have the studs or can get some, that would be best. You can use ice cubes to numb your ears, then just stick the earring in. That's all I did. Be sure to use alcohol to clean them tho so they don't get infected.

1. Get ice... hold ice on your ear until your ear is numb
2. grab a marker... and go to the mirror
3. make a dot on where you want the hole to be.. it should look the same on each side
4. grab some tissue
5. grab a needle and poke a hole on the dot
6. if it is bleeding... use a tissue
7. then do that on the other ear
8. and put earrings in the holes!
9. if it keeps on bleeding... put some rubbing alchoho on it.
