Rats are very Social animals. It is best to get them when they are babies. They tend to adjust better to their surroundings. You just need to be patient and don't force him to be around strangers just yet. Give him time. Rats can be very nervous and if stressed to much they can become ill. You have only had him for a week so it is a bit early for him to be comfortable with his surroundings. The more you handle him and give him some treats the more he will respond. Keep in mind that rats are prone to obesity so keep the treats to a minimum. Also give him something to whittle on so that he will keep his teeth worn down. In a couple weeks introduce him to one new person. See how he reacts. Do not try to throw him in a situation whjere he is surrounded by strangers. He has to learn to trust you before he can trust anyone else.

Rats, similar to mice, are hard to become well-aquainted with. By first offering him or her small food consolations, you can make a good foundation. After the rat begins to expect to be given these treats, they will interprate that you don't mean harm, and might even let you pet or hold them. It is a very gradual process, and constant handling can really mess up the relationship, or defy the trust if you take it out of it's habitat (the cage) against its will.

Just give him more practice. Fancy rats, with few exceptions, get used to people very quickly.

He's just shy, he doesn't know that those people won't hurt him and needs to trust them. Have them feed him and pet him lightly on the head. Food usually gains an animals trust.

1.Modify the cage by adding platforms, ladders, ropes, hammocks, and tunnels.
2.Feed a commercial diet (pelleted or loose mix) supplemented with a variety of fresh foods (see tips).
3.Provide a variety of toys - in addition to ropes and ladders, try blocks of wood, toys intended for ferrets or parrots, and cardboard tubes.

I know how Kyle feels. I don't have anyone who sees my rats or visits them except me. The only voice they hear is mine. Once in a blue moon I have someone who wants to visit them but that stranger's voice scares many of the rats. My rats live a sheltered life.
A week is a very short time to have Kyle and he is still frightened of everything as he is trying to settle into your home. May I suggest that you first bond with Kyle and then when he is comfortable with you, you can invite friends over, a few at a time, to bond with him just as you are doing. Go slowly and gently, don't overwhelm him, and you will be friends in no time.
