Is that normal? He's been alive for soooo long! My mom even threw him away once, thinking he was dead, so I fished him out and he was alive! The pet store owner said most die in 8 months, and well, mine's still living but he doesn't eat. I see him drink , but he ALWAYSSSS sleeps. Is anything wrong, or is that normal

For one a hermit crab can live up to 45-50 years. Also you really don't see them eat, most of the time they eat at night and you will just see them sitting in the cage thinking they are asleep. Hermit crabs are nocturnal. Some times wetting the food a little and making it damp will coax the hermit crab to eat more, or more often, also if you would like them to become a little more active you can try a couple of things; one you can bath them, setting him/her in a shallow dish for a minute or less letting them clean out their shell, they usually gets them to come out for awhile, two they do like a certain level of humidity, like setting a damp towel over their cage to keep it humid, and three they like hotter temperatures you can buy things, such as a Hermy heaters, which are designed to go under the cage as a heating pad made for hermit crabs, you can find them at any pet store. Hope that this information helps you now and in the future.

Crabs are most active when their environment is what they prefer. A crab needs room to move around (like a 10 gallon) humidity and temperature around 74-82, some buddies and a variety of foods. They also need a substrate that they can dig in.

Crabs do get bored with the same old environment. Try changing around your climbing elements to stimulate him.

Pet stores owners often give bad advice. If you follow the care sheets of most pet stores you'll be lucky to have a crab that lives a month let alone 8! Since more people started regulating their crabby's environment it seems like crabs are living longer and with less deaths than when I first started crabbing.

The size of the pad you will need depends on the size of your tank.... my tank is 3 ft
