Does anyone know the answer to this question and why, that would be amazingly helpful

In unmetamorphosed, and low-grade metamorphic BIFs, the dominant iron oxides are magnetite (Fe3O4) and hematite (Fe2O3), which phase predominates depends on the temperature, and chemical conditions (especially the degree to which oxygen or other electron acceptors have access to the system).

Its the red oxide which is Fe2O3 and the other oxide is Fe3O4 and is black. Or maybe the other way around you can look it up anyway one is red.
