Get an all day bus ticket and jump on and off the bus to do a bit of sightseeing. Have a wander round the city centre - lovely shops and cafes. Also go to the west end for the art galleries, transport museum and more shops. If you're out and about at the weekend have a wander round the barras, paddy's market and the car boot sales for any bargains.

ok I got here too late so some different stuff, walk down the pathway of the river clyde, from Glasgow Green to SECC see the buildings and enjoy going from the poor to rich area of the city. Yes get the day bus ticket to cover all the other suggestions. Food, is cheap if you go to the local supermarket get a few titbits, look to go to hogganfield loch. seethe swans and duck. Pop into the city chambers there is a free tour of the city chambers in george square..people watching in the shopping centres and it is under cover. high street you have the oldest house in glasgow, the religous museum and glasgow cathedral all in the same area. my my how i miss Glasgow

check out some of the parks as well as the museums eg Kelvingroveif you are at the Art Gallery and/or Transport Museum, Glasgow Green if you go to the People's Palace - all 3 are free.
Also, there is the Burrell Collection and the Science Centre but I am not sure if they are free.
Another thing to do if the weather is nice is catch a train to Balloch and check out Loch Lomond, or to Ayr/Troon/Prestwick for some of the seaside.

lots of great suggestions, there are hundreds of free things to do in Glasgow, and you will be able to find out about all of them from tourist information but i wanted to add that you can purchase an all day ticket for first buses, its under £3 and you can hop on and off buses all day long with it as many times as you like, and its amazing how far you can go, all the way to the coast at Helensburgh, with that ticket!! you can get a leaflet at the bus station, it shows you where you can go.

The gallery of modern art is in the centre, free, and full of weird installations.
The university grounds are stunning.
Botanic gardens are quite nice.
People watch - lots of goths to smile at over a coffee.
The cathedral's worth a visit, and free (although they welcome donations - don't we all?).
Don't drive even close to the centre - parking costs a fortune.
This link takes you to lots more about the city, with a summary of attractions if you scroll down (including some entrance fees).

Enjoy!
