The are the old dial theromstats. Even if all thermostats are turned up it still takes about 20-30 minutes for the furnace to kick on

this could also be a short in your thermostat or also take off the cover plate and clean off the contact due to any dust which could prevent an invalid contact. This could also be an ignitor issue which is a heating element to ignite the gas and can be replaced by yourself. you should have a schematic on your your furnace to show where this is located. normally you will need to removed the face plate where the looking glass is to see if there is a flame.

Have you tried just changing the thermostat? I'm in construction (although I'm not a field guy) - but 9 times out of 10 it's just the thermostat. If everything is still working, try the thermostat, it's a hell of a lot cheaper and it's pretty easy to replace. Just a thought.

You probably have an older type thermostat, a honeywell t87 or similar perhaps? if so it sounds like the heat anticipator is fried, change stat first then call tech if necessary
