Every once in a while when I get cold my fingers and toes have been turning white, and start to feel like they've "fallen asleep". Do you have any idea why this is and how the problem can be resolved?

As you get colder, blood tends to circulate closer to your heart. This makes it difficult for oxygenated blood to reach your fingers and far extensions of your body. You may feel the tingling from damaged nerves in your fingers from lack of blood. The best way to prevent this is to keep circulation going in your hand (rubbing, wearing gloves, etc.)

Well, when you are cold, your body tries to conserve body heat by pooling blood in your core. This takes blood away from the extremities, which causes numbness and loss of color.
If you keep your whole body warm, in addition to your extremities, you can prevent this.

You probably have poor circulation.
And when your cold the blood leaves the extremities.
Like your toes and fingures and will go to other more
essential parts.

Because they are cold there is a lack of blood flow to them. Therefore there is less blood reaching them which would give your skin a paler appearance.

The blood flow is being limited. That's why you see people rub their hands together vigorously when they're cold.

Because when it's cold, blood goes toward your "core" to keep your major organs warm.
