It's mohair yarn that's been knitted. It gets very tangled, and I end up breaking some of the yarn.

Is it mohair yan that was knitted? I would use a magnifying glass and pick the fibers apart with the tip of a toothpick while unraveling.

You need to do this gently and patiently. Yes, I know, I know. It can be quite difficult to rip it back, but using the tip of your knitting needle and tugging gently does work, although breaking the strands can result no matter how gentle you are. Mohair is almost always best used in plain knitting since the halo (fuzziness) of it hides any patterning. It also makes it very difficult to take out if you make a mistake.

Probably with scissors. It's very furry isn't it? I am assuming it is knit into some form and you want to take it apart.

Good Luck.
