Yeah, it's legally binding. If someone bids and you have not set a reserve price, you are legally obligated to sell it to them.

hi ya, yes you do still have to sell your item, but if you know anyone with an ebay account get them to put a bid on your item to a price that you would be happy with and if it dose not go over your friends bid then you have not lost your item, if it dose then it sells. either way win win.

as a buyer there a few times I have won at a really good price, but unfortunatley the seller dropped paint / broke etc before sending and couldn't complete.
