Most organizations and my church as well use QuickBooks by Intuit. The accountant likes the year end reports and it provides a detailed monthly review.

I can't think of any free software, but have you looked in your microsoft word or works? There are some templates there you might be able to use. Also, when I started out my home business I used Microsoft Excel and set up spreadsheets and used that to keep track. It worked very well and I could set it up to my particular needs.

If you do purchase anything, the best for any business is Quickbooks.

you'll want to buy Quick Books. Integrity of your system is Paramount. Don't go for cheap or you spend lots later cleaning up/re-doing....and maybe even looking for work in another field.
