Why does everyone in the White House have such "hazy memories" as Presidential press secretary Tony Snow put it.

Snow's comments came hours after the Justice Department released e-mails Thursday night pulling the White House deeper into an intensifying investigation into whether eight firings were a purge of prosecutors deemed unenthusiastic about presidential goals. Will Gonzales be the fall guy?

It doesn't really count as being the "fall guy" if you are the one who committed the offense for which you are charged.

Gonzales arguably is not fit for his position as AG, either because (1) he didn't know 8 US Attys were being fired, as he seems to be claiming, or (2) he fired them based on improper and unethical conduct, which is a violation of his oath as AG and a breach of professional ethics as an attorney. That's based solely on the current facts to date.

As for Snow, there's a reason he has the knickname "Snow-job". His main function seems to be obscuring the facts and making it hard for people to see what's going on.

This is, in my opinion, one more example of the liberal democrats, to distract the American people from the fact that now they are in control, nothing is getting done. I think what Tony Snow is talking about is that when Bill Clinton assumed office, he fired all 93 US Attorneys, across the board. If that is not politically motivated, help me understand what is. Where was all the "outrage" The Republicans didn't protest, because like it or not, Clinton had the right to do it and he did. This whole thing is just politically motivated by the politics of personal destruction.

The other point I think Snow is making, is that every US Attorney is appointed by, and serves at the pleasure of the President. He reserves to fire any appointed official at any time, without providing an explanation. I think firing eight is a great deal less political than all 93. While there is a great deal of things to be critical about the Bush Administration, the President does have the legal authority to do what was done.

As for the AG being the "fall guy", I think he will probably resign in the near future, especially given that the Bush Administration is nearing the end of its run. He'll end up just fine.

I think the administration is willing to blame issues on him and keep him in the news as long as they can

Will he be the fall guy...hard to say. But gone? Oh, yeah, he's out - he won't survive this.

This scandal, and I wrote on it earlier, has legs. Rove is in jeopardy too.
