i live on the border of bergen/essex counties and i have to go to a ghetto pathmark to get my food. the black people really are rude to me or ignore me totally like I'm not worth looking at or talking to. the northeast keeps very segregated. it is just how things are here i guess. when i lived in the Midwest people of all races were friendlier

It's quite possible that there is a huge gap between socio-economic class groups that reside in your neighborhood. Demographics are key in people's behaviors and social phobias. Say for example a well-to-do person that works an in inner-city might not be as friendly when they walk through an impoverished atmosphere when picking up lunch or walking past. Or a low-income person might not really feel comfortable in an upper posh neighborhood. Mixed crowds usually are seen in busy streets of the east such NY NJ. People of all walks of life blend in these neighborhoods and almost always stick to themselves or a in pairs or small groups. I guess in New Jersey it is possible there is racial tension or squeemish neighbors. Violent vicinities could also be the problemn. I live in sunny California and people tend to be freindly in suburbia.

I dont think that just because in the certain place in New Jersey where u live people aren't "friendly" doesn't mean that its like that everywhere...
Honestly maybe ur neighborhood is like that or maybe the people that live there..dont go saying that all people in new jersey are unfriendly or that new Jersey is a bad place to live just because of sum bad encounters...
I used to live in jersey and all i can say is that the people in my neighborhood were friendly...not only in my neighborhood but in my family's neighborhoods in jersey....
Any way no matter where u go-(any state/country/....w/e)-there are bound to be certain people that aren't so nice or sociable..get over it...not everybody in this world is chipper and talkative..

They are insecure or rude , or afraid . Maybe if you say hello anyway they might loosen up and be more friendly .
Someone needs to be the first to do something . Or move to my neighborhood !
P. S. I always smile at people , some smile back some don't , it is okay with me , This way I am extending my hand no matter what they do .

I live in Tennessee and it varies whether ppl look at you or not no matter where they are. I think this depends more on the person and their outlook on life than where than live. At least, I hope so. Because if not, some of you need to move.

well merica is well known for its nut jobs and violent crimes. they say that chances that if you get murdered, the chances of someone having met you even if just fleetingly, commiting the crime is over 95 percent. so based on that, if you live in an apt and you want to stay safe, keep away from everybody and make no friends. that way you cut your chance of being murdered in the laundry room or raped
