I set my smart cpu fan temp to 40c (104F) and when its temp goes up for two or three degree over 40c I scare and shutdown my computer.
please tell me what temp is safe and best.
should i shut down my pc?

lowest is best 40C is just fine dude. mine idles at that and its a sempron 64 2800 @ 2.16

so chill No damage should happen till high 60's my system shutoff is at 60C

higher than 60 will not immediately kill the cpu it will just lower the lifespan of the processor i just play it safe.

i was paraniod when I first installed my athlon 3400 clawhammer but your temps are normal. mine reach 56C on prime95 after 16hrs. that is a good way to get your thermal material to max efficincy sooner, run prime 95 for 6 hours at a time a few times then for longer and longer times.

got my idle from 43 to 38C.

FYI I switched back to my sempy and overclocked till I got better performance than my overclocked Athlon.

Don't worry until it starts getting over 60C

Check the operating specs on AMD's site. Usually they say a max of 80 or 90C, but you want to keep it as low as you can.

109 is about normal without fan temp you say should be
fine dont think you need to shut down your computer for 104
