Pornography Addiction
Did you know...
...that pornography consumption can be as mood altering and as addictive as narcotics? (Richard Drake, assistant professor at Brigham Young University College of Nursing) In fact, some studies have indicated that pornography can have the same effect on the brain as cocaine. Images can be permanently "burned" into the memory by epinephrine, a chemical in the brain.
...that according to Nielson NetRatings, 17.5 million people visited porn sites in January 2000? (U.S. News & World Report, 3/27/2000)
...that there are more outlets for hard-core pornography in this country than there are McDonalds restaurants?
...that rape statistics are proportionately higher in those states with higher pornography sales and lower in those states with lower pornography sales?
...that cyberporn sales - including videos and accessories ordered online - accounted for 8% of 1999's $18 billion E-commerce pie? (U.S. News & World Report, 3/27/2000) That's nearly $5.25 for every man, woman, and child in the United States!
...that boys ages 12-17 are one of the largest consumers of pornography and pornographers target them for that reason? If the pornographers can arrange for the young person to become addicted, then a steady flow of income is assured.
(Information received from Enough Is Enough, Morality In Media, and National Coalition For The Protection of Children and Families.)
Pornography addiction doesn't discriminate!
Pornography addiction invades the lives of people in all age groups, ethnic backgrounds, religious faiths, and social status. Even young people are affected by it. But regardless what background the addict has, there is help! God is able to change the most addicted mind - even the mind of a person whose involvement in pornography has progressed to the stage of his acting out with criminal consequences what he sees in his viewing material. He is able to renew the mind and heart of any person who will ask Him. Learn how to take that first step by reading "Prayer - the beginning of change". If you are addicted to pornography and would like further information regarding this problem and how you can be set free from it, feel free to contact us. We will respond with whatever information we can. Our Referrals Page offers additional resources that you should consider taking advantage of.

How to avoid porn addiction on the Internet
1. Consider installing porn content filtering software( Strongly Recommend NetDog Porn Filter, you can get it from www.netdogsoft.com ) on your computer. it will help to protect you from stumbling into pornography by accident, That's important.
2. Do not try to guess what the address of a Web page is. Many pornographic sites have similar addresses of respectable sites. For example www . whitehouse . com is a porn site. The real address is www. whitehouse . gov
3. Never click on Web site addresses that you receive in an unsolicited email.
4. Do not open attachments that come in email that are unsolicited.
5. Use filtered search engines or reputable directories to find the information you need.
6. Do not search for terms like girls. Think before you enter a search term.
Stick with reputable sites.
If something looks questionable, don't let curiosity get the best of you. Delete it or close the window.

Most definitely!
Here are some good books on the subject that you might want to read:
The Drug of the New Millennium, by Mark B. Kastleman (this has some good ways of helping combat the addiction, too)
A War We Must Win, by John Harmer
My father has struggled with this addiction since he was a young teenager. He had to seek therapy because it almost destoyed his marriage. In addition to that, while we were young children my brother and I found a video while he was at work and watched it. Graphic pornography exposed to a young child can often have the same affect as molestation on them, and in my case did. I am still in counseling help for some of those issues. So like other addictions, it doesn't just hurt the user.

Yes. Porn addiction, alcohol addiction, drug addictions, food addictions, television addictions, coca-cola addiction... There are SO many addictions.
In fact, specialists are starting to realize that the problem with addiction is not necessarily the products... And, to make my point: just observe how some alcoholics stop drinking and starting gambling, or over-eating, shopping, etc. Transfers of dependence and addiction products...

ABSOLUTELY! If porn interferes with your life, then it can be an addiction. If it affects relationships, if you try to quit and can't, if it makes you spend money that you rather you did not, if you find yourself looking for more and more deviant things, then it can be an addiction. Porn is also the first step in many instances to other deviant sexual activities including child molestation and rape. When receiving counseling for these behaviors, therapists require that all porn be turned in to them.
