That is a good question and the answer, unfortuantely for you, is 'yes.'

Several elite schools I have visited recently have repeated that there is no specific SAT score that you need to have for admission, but that the one thing they don't want to see is a very high SAT with mediocre marks. That means that you definitely are smart, or else you couldnt have gotten a 2400, but you are also definitely a slacker, since you must have gotten Bs or even Cs in major courses over the length of a whole year. The kids they want at elite schools are not slackers.

At a lot of second level schools they would love to have you, and would be willing to take a chance that you will have a change of attitude. Or, possibly you have a good reason (like a serious illness or deaths in your family) why your GPA is relatively low and you could explain to the elite schools why it happened.

If you arent applying to Stanford, Duke or Harvard and their competitors, then it probably doesnt matter.

A good SAT score can't hurt you in any way. If anything, it would be your GPA that is "hurting" you. Colleges will also look at your transcript to see what classes you got lower grades in. There are a lot of things that the SAT doesn't cover, so if your lowest grades were in more difficult classes, that is completely understandable. There are a lot of factors to getting accepted/getting scholarships to college, and it helps to be well-rounded in your activities as well. Generally, your SAT score is considered more reliable than your GPA because every school has different grading scales, curriculum, etc., but everyone takes the SAT.

No!

It DOES show that you may have a less than perfect work ethic since you are smart enough to score perfect on the SAT and yet you only have a 3.4. However, i find it hard to believe that people can really give you a whole lot of crap, i mean, you did score perfect!

Sorry, it is in basic terms no longer likely to take place. The ivies frequently turn down 4.0 scholars, valedictorians, and suitable SAT and ACT scorers. they might turn down the suitable one million% of your classification - and additionally you're in the suitable forty%? it quite isn't stable adequate for many stable colleges, much less suitable ones, and a suitable SAT score in basic terms won't make up for that. to no longer point out maximum colleges do no longer even supply that important, and it is no longer some thing you are able to desire to attend a suitable college to income besides.
