Honestly, tell her to bring a deck of cards and a book. She will get bored.

Second just show her the time you are entered into the program in. Then say your goal is to beat that time, and hopefully everyone else.

If she has any interest past that feel free to answer her questions. But don't be surprised if she is more interested in something else come the first 20 minutes of standing around.

I had to explain it I would say that their are 12 different events and then explain what each event is and what the different strokes are and what events and what you swim and etc. Tell her what event number your in and what your heat and lane number is. I would then explain that their are different heats and different lanes and you get up on the block and the announcer says take your makr and then if theirs any competition moving they say stand up and whatnot and then do it again. Then the buzzer goes off and you dive into the water and you swim whatever and the first one finished wins the heat. The person with the fastest time wins the event. Then at the end the team with the most points based on where their swimmers finished wins the meet. Then individual swimmers and teams get medals but I hope that helped.
