That entirely depends on what you want to do. Below I've listed the classes and what they are good at along with a breif opinion.

Warrior: Tanking, melee nuke. They are a pretty good solo class because of their armor and hitpoints. But you have to learn how to tank to be invited into instances.

Paladin: A Hybrid, mostly tanking and healing with some good buffs. Best played as a support class. Paladins are tricky to play because they can do anything but ranged combat. Most people expect them to be a tank that can heal though, and that isn't what you are best at.

Priests: Healing, buffs, rez, and spell damage. Priests have an open inventation to instances, but people expect you to be a healer first, adn everything else second. Low hipoints can make this tricky to solo.

Mages: Ranged nuke damage. Mages are the artialry pieces of WoW people expect you to be fragile and blast things away wit big damage spells and the is exactly what you should do.

Rouges: DPS. Rouges specialize in doing little damage values continuously. Given enough time a rouge can outdamage a mage. It requires some footwork to play a rouge, you can't just stand there like some other classes.

Hunters: Ranged damage, pets. A pretty good solo class, your pets can attact agro while you shoot from afar. Don't get dragged into melee or your head will be on a platter.

Shamans: A hybrid class. More like a spell caster than the paladin, more like a warior than a druid. You can do a little of everything, but most people want you to heal.

Druids: Also hybrids. You shapeshifting power lets you be a poor substitution for virtually any other class. Tend to be very magic heavy though.

Warlocks: Magical rouges with pets. You specialize in DPS and agro attraction with your pet, or nuke damge with one of your other pets. While more fragile than a hunter, this is also a pretty good solo class.

Most player do have multiple characters. They take one to the 60~70 region and then start another in a differnt class. I wouldn't recommend starting with a hybrid class (Paladin, Shaman, Druid) because they are trickier to play than the others.

My favorite class is shaman. it is the first character is ever made and i have tried out most other characters and if i ever made a 2nd character of a class i had already made i'd make another shaman. They can do everything (healing, ranged and meelee) and are pretty good at it all. starting out it is good to have a character that can heal itself too. I have an elemantal shaman and i love playing her.

i know 2 people who started out playing rogues and they leveled quite quickly and got instantly hooked on the game.

i wouldn't recommend a mage because it can't heal itself and it has very little armor. if you don't know how to play one and aren't used to the game controls you will die a lot as a mage especially if you plan on playing solo.

I also wouldn't recommend playing a priest to start out with because they are hard to play on their own. although they can heal themselves they aren't very good at taking on multiple ememies. if you plan on playing with someone then it's not as bad and some people would keep in mind that it's easy for priests to find groups because they are such good healers. but for a starting character it would probably be more enjoyable to be killing things than keeping everyone alive.

well i started out with a warrior which was fun and all but i needed something that was cooler. then i found shammys whick are insanely fun. now that they can get dual weild they have some of the highest DPs, they can get insane heals and can range and melle like mad they were fun. my friends have found pallys and hunters to be fun also. hunters pets can kill some things by themselves some times and then the hunter itself can kill a mob or 2. im a priest which isnt too fun, so if i were you id go with a (horde) pally shammy or hunter

Rogues are loads of fun to, very easy to start with because they don't have loads of spells and abilites to deal with. Just go in and kill. My best advice tho is read thru the options and play what you want sounds fun to you. What is easy and fun for me won't be the same as you. And I also gaurentee as your playing you will be jealous of other characters talents and abilities. You will probably end up creating more then one character just to do it. Have fun in Azeroth
