Human sexuality is on a spectrum. Considering that there are more than two sexes, if I said that my sexual orientation was "intersex" People would probably scratch their heads over that one for a while. (My sexual orientation isn't "intersex", btw, even if doctors labeled my partner intersex.)
Bi-phobia is a type of gender enforcement within a realm of dicotomous logical fallacies "you must be either/or"
Bi-phobia can also be the result of a defensive action by some homosexuals who feel that because they are oppressed by some heterosexuals who insist that homosexuality is conscious a choice and more specifically a choice to be immoral. Often, these people point to bisexuals and say "you are like them only you consistently choose wrong" So there is a lot of resentment against Bisexuals by some of the homosexual communities.
Some homosexuals feel threatened or envious of bisexuals because some feel that bisexuals have access to heterosexual priviledge.
Bisexuals are often discriminated against and disadvantaged and/or invalidated by heterosexuals who also believe that bisexuals can choose whom they love. (if you can love two sexes, or all sexes then you should choose right and choose a heterosexual relationship [regardless of whether or not you fall in love with a "same-sex" person].
It breaks down to that people are still policing each others sexuality. It points out that one oppressed group can oppress another group regardless of the fact that they themselves cry out against the injustices of oppression against their specific group.
We will not see an end to oppression when we seek to the liberation of only one group. Rather, when we seek the solidarity of a single cause, the equality of all human beings regardless of group identity.
First do no harm. love who you love. Celebrate love.
Social dynamics play a large part in the formation of human sexuality in general. To say "All bisexuals are a fad" is as falty logic as saying "All homosexuality/heterosexuality/etc. is a fad"

Since bisexuality has gained more social acceptance, I think a lot of people have fallen for the assumption that if you identifiy as straight but then have one homoerotic experience in your life, or vice versa, that it automatically makes you bi. But this isn't necessarily so.
As for it being among teen girls, there have always been things that are socially acceptable for two girls to do, which is not acceptable for two guys to do: dance together, share clothes, kissing, holding hands while roller skating, etc. So I wouldn't say there's popularized bisexuality going on, just stuff that's always been there that's now being mislabeled as "bi".

This is nothing new...it is only that kids are much more enlightened today than they used to be....the kids haven't changed, but the negative impact of being bi has pretty much gone away. Sexuality is not a fad, by any means. Most teens can swing either way, and in adults, only about 10% cannot have sex with the same sex...that doesn't mean that 90% of people are bisexual..it means only that when push comes to shove, any port in a storm is better than no port. Good luck

If you don't have any propensity for homosexual attraction, I don't see how you can be bisexual by choice. I think the reality is that at least half of the population does have some degree of homosexuality and it's simply more accepted in some circles these days to act on it and those that do are finding that it feels good and isn't the unthinkable crime against nature that others have always described it to be.

Its not really considered "cool". Thats why I don't go around telling people I am bi, because, well, I know there are, sadly, some haters that really wouldn't like me.

I think because people keep saying it's being popularized, it has.
