I have an aunt that formaly worked at the Pentagone. As for what she did to serve our government I am not entirely sure, but i doubt she was some kind of a spy or something. she is about 70 years old now. ever since I was young she would go on ranting that there is so much we don't know about our government and what they do to keep the amercan society in check.
on e thing she'd always protest is that the government made the idea of televised news to make us all WORRIED and STRESSED OUT (which at times it does exactly that) -made to keep us in check and to keep watching. BUT IS THERE ANY THRUTH TO THIS or is my aunt just as little to old???

I don't think it was originally created for that but I think there is some truth to it.

There is a theory that "media by consent" was created to divert the public from certain aspects of government they'd rather we know nothing about. Have you ever noticed that when something that should be big receives the tiniest bit of media attention and you think it should warrant more focus, it just sort of gets shuffled somewhere else? I do believe your aunt was right. It goes on in all governments. Just a theory.

TV news was created for the same reason as ever thing else on TV------to sell things for the sponsors of that programming.
