about three and a half weeks ago my 8 month old had a pretty bad bout of diarrhea lasting about a week and a half, his poop was completely watery, and going through about 10 diapers a day (he normally poops once maybe twice); took him to the doctor who was not concerned at all, sent me home and told me to give him pedialyte. it got better for like two days, and then went back to diarrhea on and off for the last two weeks. a virus or infection wouldn't normally act this way so I'm trying to find other causes. I switched to bottled water, stopped giving him apple juice, cut out meat, stopped adding new foods and feed him only the foods he's been good on for months (the basics: veggies, cereal, bananas, etc.) nothing has helped. He's on enfamil lipil which he's always done great with since i stopped breastfeeding him at four months. What am I missing?? what's left that could be causing this??

If it's still troublesome after three weeks, you probably want to check with your doctor. That sounds worrisome.

Is there any chance that he's eating other than food that's causing this? Soap, for example? Are there any foods that are still around after three weeks? Something in very old leftovers?

It could be a milk allergy. Sometimes they take time to develop. Try him on soy formula (they make it with lipil) for maybe a week and see if that helps. He may not like it too much at first, it's not as sweet as cows milk. If he won't drink it plain, mix in a tablespoon of Karo syrup for every 6-8 ounces and shake really well. Yeah, they say botulism and all about that now, but my kids both had it in their bottles for different reasons and I had it when I was a baby. If the soy doesn't work then you should see another doctor if the one you have now isn't helping you like you think they should. good luck with everything!
