Well, I'm not all that familiar, but I believe the 7 year itch is supposed to be when a couple is married for about 7 years, suddenly they are a bit bored with their relationship and have the inkling to start looking around for fun in other places if you get what I mean.

It is called the 7 year itch because people seem to go through rough spots in a relationship after 7 years - some famous people have apparently separated or divorced after 7 years!!

I got to the 7 year itch, went past it and got to 10, asked myself a few questions and know that the woman I married was the one for me - she loves me and I have some ghosts to lay to rest, but 7 years of Marriage is what I have been led to understand is the Itch, once you get past 7 it is all down hill, it really is downhill pal, cos if you didn't marry her or him you wouldn't have got married. It usually happens around 7 yrs but I have noticed it with married couples around the 5 yrs mark, where they start looking around a little and get bored with the day in day out stuff. That is the itch, they are getting a little nutty and bored and want a change. That is the time to start spicing things up.

About every 7 years people start re-evaluating their relationships. Most breakups happen after 7 years. Boredom and familiarity set in, excitement has gone. 1st two years spent finding out, 3 years feeling contented, 2 years looking at the future, enough said?

Not long after I moved in with my girlfriend, I let myself go a bit.
She wanted me to buy her things so I stopped buying clothes and changing my underwear to save money.
My pants have now fused into my skin a mere 7 years later.
It itches like crazy - hence the 7 year itch.

This is an excuse people give after 7 years of marriage and they want a change instead of working on the relationship.

It's basically the term for being bored or unsatisfied w/ your marriage, so you look for excitement elsewhere, as in having a afffair. I'm married for 8 years and after about 6 years, it was so routine....so, we spoke w/ each other about the normalcy of our lives. We made an effort to communicate more, give each other some room to persue individual hobbies and not crowd each other. But vowed to never, ever look to someone else for excitement. Respect the marriage and each other. It works.

There is a movie by the same name starring Marilyn Monroe. The basic idea is that after 7 or so years we get tired of our partner and start to look elsewhere.
