She had built up a network of informants during a 20 year span of undercover work. People like her go in and out of undercover status all the while not leaking their true occupation. It is unprecidented for a public official in the United States government to expose an undercover operative even decades after they retired from the CIA.

She is in the news because the dummycrats are putting on a show for 2008. The issue of who told what has been settled a long time her ranting is not doing any good. The dummycrats insist on wasting time about old news instead of using the time to get things done.

Beyond bad.
It doesn't matter what level of covertness she was at. The important issue is that anyone in any line of government work will be hung out to dry if they, in any way, can be linked to furthering the the perception in the press that there were only political and personal goals in the plan to occupy Iraq.

The "leak" was common knowledge in many circles. She had not been covert in over five years and it has been ascertained that she did not even fall under the law that protects covert operatives. I think she has done great. A book deal and movie deal by WB have already been inked. Who is kidding who here.
