I have seen RV's that have 2 6 volt batteries connected to make 12 volts, but why do they not just get 12 volt batteries?

But isn't 2 6 volt batteries wired together still only as good as 1 12volt battery? again, why not get 2 12 volt batteries? they weigh almost the same ammount....

Because a 12 volt battery with that capacity would weigh too much for one person to handle and would cost more than two 6 volt batteries.

2 six volt batteries wired in series to produce 12 volts allows the use of either 6 or 12 volt accessories simply by wiring to both batteries for 12 volts and 1 battery for 6 volts.
