if a girl has sex, and decides to take a test 1 week later, would a test be effective or is that too soon?

no count when your period is suppost to be and take a test that day not a day sooner!!!!

No, you can do tests that you can try 4 days BEFORE your period is mean to start. However they give you around 60% chance of a definite answer.
However if you wait a week, after your period is meant to be due then you can get a definite result.
Reasons why, once conceived, it then takes 6-12 days for the egg to implant into the uterus, then another 8 days for the pregnancy hormones to rise.
