It’s a celebration of our nationality, we do get merry but its such a jovial time and there is so many Irish around the world ( obviously our immigration record in the last few hundred years is quite high) but it’s a great time for us to celebrate in being all that is Irish. And having a few social drinks and having the craic is all part of the fun!!

no, we don't need an excuse either way but the celebration can be be at mass as he is the patron saint of ireland,the day commemorates his death. other countries will celebrate from a catholic perspective. st patrick is known to have used the shamrock to represent the holy trinity,the snakes represent evil as ireland has never had snakes on account of the climate. although christianity was already in ireland st patrick was a big influence in ireland and he is attributed for bringing christianity to ireland,not everyone here drinks or gets wasted on the day so no it is not an excuse.

people in ireland don't celebrate st. patricks day as much as the rest of the world seem to think we do. it's st. patricks night and im in my house and sober.

no, in ireland it is treated as almost a version of are thanksgiving for family to get together, thet do party but church and family is also special
