i have a 3.93 right now...because i got B in one class...will it ever be possible to get my gpa back to a 4.0? or is it hopeless?

actully ah i worked hard for my gpa..and the only reason i got a B is because the i missed a day because i was in the HOSPITAL and the teacher did not care even with a doctors note telling him i was GOING TO DIE...and sorry that i dont know much about gpa's gosh. oh and yes i am in college..and the B came from a 1 credit class...and just to get it stright it was a 89% one point from an A....so if i retake the class will the gpa go up?

I had a friend who graduated with a perfect 4.0 as an undergrad and she did not get into her first choice graduate program. Why? When they interviewed her, they were concerned that she was so obsessed with getting perfect grades that she didn't have the sense of balance or perspective they felt was necessary to succeed in their program. . . . much as I liked her, they were totally right.

As a professor, I have known students who maintained a perfect gpa and also were involved in outside activities and were happy and enjoying their life. But I have also known uptight students who were so focused on their grade point, they did nothing but study--interestingly they often limited themselves in their studies too--they wouldn't take risks and try anything unusual in their approach to a course because it might not work perfectly and then it might "ruin" their perfect grade. Or they wouldn't take a suggested course because it was out of their comfort zone and it might ruin their perfect score.

Don't go there. Perfection is not permanently attainable and you'll likely make yourself crazy trying to be perfect. Join groups that match your interests. Volunteer in events that are meaningful to you. Talk to friends because they have an interesting twist in their approach to life. In the long run, having a perfect gpa is not a big deal.

Would you have spent the rest of your life bragging about having gotten a perfect 4.0? Frankly, boring, if that's all you have to talk about. Take your 3.93 and run and embrace life. You'll be richer for it.

You will never able to have a 4.0 again. You might be able to pull it up to a 3.99 - maybe... Since you got a high B in the class I highly doubt that they will let you take it again, sorry. What I would suggest is to just keep getting A's and it will slowly move up. (It is much easier to drop a GPA than to pull it back up!) Maybe you could take some classes that are interesting to you and just for fun, and also ones that you know that you can get an A in. That would help a bit. Good Luck! =)

You can get your gpa back up to a 4.0 only if your school (college) uses fractionalized grading and you can get enough A+ grades to offset (which depends upon the credits received for the B class). In calculating your gpa, your B would have counted as a 3.0, an A+ should count as a 4.33, so it is possible. If there is no fractionalized grading, it is not possible to bring your gpa back to a 4.0

No, you can't get a 4.0 again, although you can get close. If it really really bothers, you can look into whether or not your university lets you do grade replacement, where you take the course over again for a better grade. Really, though, having any GPA over 3.5 is really good, you don't have to have your heart set on a 4.0 (I know it's hard though, I was upset when I got my first B).

A 4.0 is a perfect GPA in all classes. You don't have a perfect GPA. So no.

(Really, you don't deserve to be a 4.0 if you can't answer that question.)

let me guess, the B is in Math. If you have honors classes that are available that count for more than the normal classes, otherwise, you keep getting straight a's and you keep creeping closer but never reaching a 4.0...sorry

Take an honors class.

A 3.93 is still REALLY GOOD (I could never hope for anything remotely close, even in HS).
