I found a secret room in my home. In the room was a shoe, and old civil war newspaper, and a civil war token. I had the newspaper preserved, and I have the token in a safe. Everyone figured the house was used for the underground railroad. I was, and am still very excited. ~~~~~~

I found an ATM card. I called the 800# on the back to report it and I destroyed the card properly.
oh yeah, I found $20 once. Righteous bucks in college - I probably spent it on pizza and beer.
Sorry, as I am reading others' answers, I keep thinking of other things I have found. I found a newspaper from the 1800's while cleaning my husband's great -grandmother's house (she's still around - 102 years old) and it was all about some war that was going on with illustrations of a battle and other stuff. it was really cool. I think it was turned over to the historical society of our town.

I found a bracelet in the parking lot of the office building I manage. For the next couple of weeks I tried everything I could think of to find the owner, but nobody claimed it. Finally, I put it in the lost and found box and forgot about it. Two years later I was cleaning out that box, throwing away old keys and sunglasses and stuff, and decided to keep the bracelet. I wore it around for a long time, and I really liked it because it sparkled so beautifully. I never thought about a value because I felt if it had been truly valuable somebody would have been looking for it when it was first lost. One night we were out to dinner with a friend who was a jeweler. He commented on it and told me how pretty it was. He looked it, and told me it would be valued at about $4,000.

I volunteered to work on an archaeological in the Four Corners section of the Midwest. While excavating a midden heap, I found an Anasazi arrowhead! I didn't keep it though -- I turned it over to the overseeing archaeologist to clean & log into his notebook. It's not right to take things like that as souvenirs; it's scientific.

I drive a truck for a live-ing about 7years ago I pulled up to a fuel pump. go out was fueling my tanks. done washed the windows & mirrors. all while doing these chores, I noticed this brown bag laying ion the ground. [it was small, rolled up, like it had trash but did not make in the trash container]. my mind is wondering what could be in the bag, right. so finally i pick up look inside. & guess what. there were 3 dime bags of some really good smelling pot.smelled like a skunk. & look even better. So naturally I look around for the unmarked cop car with a camera watching me . well to say the least, I know I had too look like a drunk at a AA meeting.[I have been to one, for drugs not alchol] but to make short story into a shorter one. I took the pot home with me. U have no idea what is was like carrying this stuff in big rig & not touch it smell it, smoke it.

I found a whole box of CDs that the moving company got mixed up with my stuff when I moved. They were all really fun electronica, dance, techno, and a lot of J-pop. I had a really hard time tracking down the owner, but I finally found him and returned the box. I confess to uploading a bunch of the songs to my iTunes, though.

i found this really old looking wallet in the grocery store with 200 bucks in it, and it was a really feminine wallet, but you could tell it was old an worn out, and I was about to walk out with it, but then I looked inside it and the ID said "Mabel" in really scribbly writing, and it broke my heart to think that I might be walking out there with some old ladies grocery money, and it might be her only money!! so i took it to the register and they called for this woman and she came and it was an old lady just like my intuition had told me so whenever i find something now i return it cause i have tooooooo much of a conscience
