A little while ago my clutch fluid ran out on my 02 mitsubishi eclipse. It was filled back up with brake fluid and ran ok but it still wasnt the same. It revs alot when i try to drive it but i have no problems switching gears. And before the fluid ran out i never had problems. So does anyone know what the problem could be? Clutch? Cylinders? Leak? Maybe needs to be bleed? Oh and will the brake fluid damage anything because the guy who is fixing it said it did and if so can i just bleed the line and it be fixed? Please help!!

Brake fluid is the same as the clutch fluid. You might have to bleed it. If this doesn't help then you more than likely ate through the clutch or glazed over the flywheel.

Don't drive long with a bad clutch as it will most likely cause more problems. It could explode causing internal tanny problems or it can put heat cracks in the flywheel which would not be able to be resurfaced nor can you get your core deposit back when buying a new one.

Brake fluid should have worked ok in the clutch. The fluid probably leaked out the slave cylinder and got on the clutch plates.

You have a leak in your clutch master cylinder or in the slave cylinder or in the line that connects them. It is not the clutch itself. You will need to find the source of the leak and replace the defective part- not a big job. Yes, the brake fluid is very corrosive and will damage paint and cause metal to rust and rubber to deteriorate. Clean off any parts/surfaces that came in contact with the brake fluid....thoroughly! (And wear rubber gloves while doing it- brake fluid can cause your skin to have nasty reactions too).
