i know that alot of people here hate the shootout, so i think that i might have found a way to make it a litle better.
instead of it being one guy against a goalie, make it one offender against a defender and a goalie
the offeseman gets one shot and one rebound
it has to be done within 20 seconds
each player can shoot once and defend once. then after the whole team cycles through, he can go again.
it would be a 3 round thing, followed by 1 round.
i think that this would give the people who like shootouts and people who like traditional play a compromise
what do you guys think? is it a good idea or am i being stupid?

You are very smart I'm sure, but your IDEA wouldn't work.

Having a defender would have little meaning. It is usually not easy to beat someone 1 on 1, so people would just take a quick low percentage shot.

It'd be hard to score on that shot, so shootouts would feel more like luck than now.

It would work a little better if the attackers had TWO players, the defenders one, I think I've even heard some people propose that.

But I have to agree with most people here. Why have the shootout at all? You play a 65 minutes TEAM game and then you just HAVE to have it decided? And you do that without defensemen and team play? Makes no sense to me.

Wow, that may be the worst rule change I have heard of. How about having each teams tough guy fight and whoever wins gets the two points. Honestly I would like to see them go to 10 minutes of 4on4 and if after that go to the shootout which I hate , but I think I am I am in the minority, I know when I go to the games at the Garden everyone seems to be digging it.

this is perhaps one of the worst ideas for anythign that i have ever heard. accoring to these rules, there is absolutely no poitn for the rest of the game. the whole point of a shootout is as a way to deicde a gaem "quickly". your idea qwould only make it longer. it makes moroe sense to then just play another overtime period

Lame, totally Lame

I didn't mind the tie games.

Since the playoffs are 5 on 5 in the OT it really doesn't matter how you decide regular season games.

Nah, it's not a good idea. Why even play the first 60 minutes?
