I would have to say "Much Ado About Nothing" because it's the play that made me realize I *do* indeed like Shakespeare. I never really "got" Shakespeare untill I saw Kenneth Branagh's "Benedick" to Emma Thompson's "Beatrice". Their movie version was so fun and funny that I couldn't help falling for the Bard. It's a love affair that has yet to end.

My favorite Shakespeare play is " A Midsummers Night Dream".
I'm glad that somebody else on this planet likes Shakespeare!

"Hamlet"--every time I read it, I find something new. And it's fascinating to watch the different versions (there are at least four folio versions from Shakespeare's time which vary in detail). I prefer the complete version (I think it's the First Folio) which ends with the invading armies marching into Denmark, which gives full meaning to "The Tragedy of Hamlet" (it's through his actions that the kingdom collapses, like in "Beowulf"). But the last time I saw "Hamlet" onstage, it was the Fourth Folio version, which cuts out all the political nuances (and at least one character) and turns the play into more of a revenger's play.

My favorite to see performed is "Macbeth"--the witches' prophecy and the fight scenes always make for amazing theater.
My favorite to read (for myself or aloud for an audition) is either "The Tempest" or "12th Night". I love the way that Shakespeare uses language to create comedy, with mistaken identities and innuendos. But he always balances comedy with deeper meaning and questions about human nature. His works are truly wonderful.

I checked out hamlet from the library. I opened it. I stared at it for 20 minutes. I threw it across the room. That is my Shakespeare experience.

Hamlet. I love the psychological aspects of the character. The Kenneth Branaugh movie is also great. C.
