I was walking through the living room to eat my spaghetti when my cat walked by my feet and I tripped and spilled my bowl of spaghetti. Luckily I was able to recover the spaghetti from the floor, but the orange spaghetti sauce made a stain about 3 feet long. I am having trouble getting it out, and my REMOVER TRIPLE ACTION carpet stain remover doesn't have much more liquid in it. I need some suggestions for alternate methods.

Try this:

Mix water, vinegar and baking soda together and pour onto stain. The vingegar helps tomato stains and the baking soda helps lift that up.

If that doesn't work, put a towel down on thet wetted spot and put a hot iron on it. The steam will help release the stain.

I own a professional carpet cleaning business. One thing we hate to see or hear is someone with a stain that they tried to get out themselves and now they are finally calling us. By the time we get there, there is the extra mess of additional chemicals that just add foam and the customer has usually scrubbed the stain into the carpet fibers when trying to remove it, all making it harder to completely get it out than if they would have contacted us in the first place.

Make it easier on yourself and your carpet - call a professional for a stain like this. Their products and equipment will be able to easily lift the stain, and it would cost you $20 or less if you called us ($20 for the entire room). Once you scrub the stain into the fibers and add additional products, it makes the job harder and sometimes is impossible to remove all of the stain.

Spaghetti sauce has tomatoes. Tomatoes are acidic. Acid etches the stain into the carpet. You may not be able to get it clean.
Try Murphy's oil soap and water. Scrub the stain with an old wash cloth. Dry the area with an old towel. If that doesn't work, try your homeowners insurance company.
If you have insurance and if the carpet is wall-to-wall and permanently attached to the building, you may have a covered claim.

Try vinegar. Soak the floor with 50/50 vinegar and water and leave for half an hour, then rinse with lots of water many times and hoover thoroughly until all water is gone.

I would call your local carpet dealer and ask what is best. They sell the products that will help clean your carpet.

Dip your cat in acid and use its body to wipe up the mess. It's the cats fault to begin with.
