I am a 29yr old mother of two amazing kids and wife of one selfish pig. We had a barney tomight and want to get an outside opinion on the situation.
I ama childminder, auntie, daughter, cook, cleaner and general dogsbody to most people and I bend over backwards to make sure everyone has everything they need whether it be day to day stuff or special things. The children who I take care of took nice things for mummy and my nephews have treats lined up for my sis. Every birthday, Xmas and fathers day hubby gets really special treatment even if were broke I make sure he has a really good day. I asked him if he would mind going to see his mum on Saturday afternoon as then we could spend mothers day as a foursome perhaps even with me getting a cup of coffee made for me and a sit down. Apparently though the woman who makes no effort to contact him and was a crap mother is far more important than the skivvy he lives with.
Am I being unreasonable?

I dont think you are being unreasonable however, picture this- he gets up at 8am on sunday and takes the kids with him for an hour leaving you snuggled up in bed. When he gets home he helps the kids cook you breakfast in bed etc etc..... that way you wont even know he is gone and by taking the kids it leaves you in peace? I know his mother is a miserable stinkin' oaf but if I were you, I would be using this situation to your advantage. If it's any consolation, my mother is cumin up on sunday to see my nan, I have to go and see her, cant get out of it so there goes my day of rest and he will be at his mums too so it's just gonna be like any old sunday for me!!

As for Coleen's answer above me- WTF???? Cor, she's a bit feisty aint she!? How rude!!!!

Edit: Oh, I just read Mark H's answer, isn't one mark enough?

Whether his mom treated him poorly or not she's still his mom. He can't really choose between you both and actually should spend the day with you all together. But because you desire a day with just your family you should compromise for the day before or after. Also, you know who you married. You seem like a giver and him a taker. If he's never gone out of his way to make you feel special and celebrate these holidays it's pretty impossible to do it now. Learn how to communicate better and really get what you need to be married to him or do you own thing and accept him as he is.

Not sure about his mother and what your selfish pig thinks of you. But isn't mothers day for the persons mother? Aren't you his wife and not his mother? Isn't valentines day for you ? I think the children should spend that day with you. Its not unreasonable for a cup of coffee and a sit down though . If you was here i would make you a cup even if it wasn't mothers day.

Certainly not , but mother's day is Sunday so he should call to see his mother and spend the rest of the day with his family .If he is not prepared to do that then give him the same treatment when fathers day comes round etc. Some men do not have the same interest in those things as we women . My husband say's to me ( your not my mother but here's a gift for mother's day)

Mothers Day is every day!!!!! You are being unappreciated by your husband, whom apparently is still seeking the love and approval of his neglectful mother.. It sounds to me that you need to lay it one the line!!!!!! He need to know how hard you work keeping the family together, and that with out you every thing would go to H***. He needs to see the love that is in front of him and stop trying to get it from a women who has no idea what being a mother really is. Good Luck.Happy Mothers Day!!!!!!

No You are not being unreasonable-- just human. What a lucky selfish Pig ,but you must love him to do all the right things by him. Now and again you will be angry enough to describe him as a selfish pig.He will realize it, believe me.

no your not being unreasonable, your mother to his kids he should put you first. but if he really is being stubborn why not compromise and he could leave you in bed while he takes the kids to his moms for an hour on mothers day morning, then come back and make you breakfast in bed ! hope you get it sorted and have a good mothers day
