I have a 2006 emachine T6420 with an nVidia IGP standard with this model. I would like to install an ATI 1300X 256 DDR2 graphics card in the PCI express slot. After multiple attempts and speaking with "Tech's" from both Gateway & ATI I am still having problems. The machine doesn't even recognize that I have new hardware plugged into the PCI slot. When I uninstall the nVidia graphics drivers using driver clean up I am still not able to install the ATI catalyst driver suite. Error: No driver or hardware is installed even though it is. I have upgraded to a 400A power supply but not sure if that is enougy or if this would cause the system to not recognize the new graphics card. Please help!

From the specs below :

...it appears that your PCs graphic card is integrated on the mainboard. Have you disabled it in the BIOS & set the PCI-E slot (with the ATI installed) as the primary video adapter ?

If so ... it should detect it immediately after booting.

Also .. it is sometimes necessary to reset the video driver to "standard VGA" before installing the new driver for the new card.

First things first. Install the driver for the card, open device manager and find your original onboard graphics, right click it and disable, shut down the pc and install the ati card and connect the monitor. Reboot

i love ATi not in any respect had a card die on me, cant say a similar for Nvidia :P yet making use of an ATi card on smaller operating structures can be a soreness... So homestead windows/Mac then its going to be an ATi Card. yet Linux/BSD/Skyos/and so on. Its going to be an Nvidia... yet who else compared to sturdy old AMD/ATi may launch their new chip (HD 3850) for the ageing AGP slots :P lengthy stay my Quad Xeon gaming rig :P
