This may look really funny, but consider this:
Some people have LD, and need to include as much sensory information in their brain as possible to be able to follow along.
Some people have only learned to master their dyslexia or other reading problem through speaking aloud, and listening to their own speech for continuity of thought.
If that were your kid, I'm sure you'd be so proud that s/he is finally reading, and now reading silently around others!
