Mostly they're red, sometimes (I think, if I remember correctly) they're yellow or orange. THey are about the size of a basketball. I have seen them in areas that make me pretty sure they are NOT there to prevent aircraft from hitting the lines. Please help!! This is driving me crazy! (Please forgive the random categorization, I really didn't know where to put this question).

Not just planes and helicopters, but birds too.

They started installing them in areas not frequented by aircraft to help the re-population of the california condors. They were hitting the power lines.
