Not free money but they paid for school, because I am disabled . I stutter. If you are disabled go to the division of vocational rehabilitation in your state, and you can get some free money.

I got $10,000 (downpayment assistance ) from HUD for buying a home in a what was called a "blighted area". I also had my own downpayment, but the HUD money sealed the deal for me. I had to meet income requirements and fill out a lot of paperwork, and the neigbhorhood is not great, but the reason they are giving money (downpayment assistance) to people willing to purchase in the neigbhorhood is that they hope to improve the 'hood with more urban homesteaders. So if you are willing to chance a neighborhood that is currently in decline but has potential, look at the HUD website and see if there is a home you can purchase in one of their designated areas.

This money is not "free". If you sell the house before 10 years, you will owe it back to HUD. They really want people to make a committment to the area and not flip the property. Home owners stabilize neighborhoods and when people are invested in the area it will improve.

Money is never free.

The Government takes money from ME, keeps a chunk for their own administrative purposes and gives some of it to YOU.

It is my wallet and the wallets of millions of other hard working folks that PAY for this "FREE MONEY".

Oh and even if you do qualify for various assistance programs, you still we be worse off than I, cause I am not a Slave to the government and their bizarre eligibility rules.

Government money is nothing more than our tax dollars held hostage. "Free" government money was taken from someone's pocket.
