Sergeant at Arms is an old and venerated position in many associations and institutions.

It is an old army position that was essentially the commanding officers personal assistant. There was so much responsibility that the SAA could tell officers what to do and was the highest non commissioned rank a soldier could achieve.( even above Regimental Sargent Major).

Generally today the Sergant at Arms is the executive officers clerk, it is a responsible and powerful role within the club or association and is usually the highest rank a non director can hold within a club.

Duties include:
- Executing the orders of the governing body
- Provide policy advice to club members
- Arranging and co-ordinationg ceremonial functions
- Attending all executive and non executive meetings
- Arranging accomodation and travel if required for members and visitors
- Liasing with media and spokesman for the club
- Responsibilities to ensure all club projects are on track
- protection for the CEO of the club ( this role is purely ceremonial now)
- Saftey and security of club premises.

You will find that the organizational chart will have the SAA to the left of the CEO of the club and the management under the Ceo. In other words he reports directly to the CEO and no- one else

hope that helps.
