He wouldn't have been accepted by a lot of people. The Olympics were held in Germany in 1936, and the US knew that Jews were being persecuted then. There were groups attempting a boycott of the Olympics.
Jesse Owens was a black athlete who won 4 gold medals at the Berlin Olympics. Blacks were supposedly ethnically inferior. How's that for a slap in the face?! HA.
The US already knew that Jews were being treated unfairly, but I don't think that the majority over here knew how bad it was.

How would he have been accepted?

Harry Truman had great trust in the American people. He said that unsavory characters may rise momentarily, but that the American people will eventually see through the charlatans of the moment and who arise onto the world stage.

Adolf Hitler wouldn't have lasted very long on the American scene. The world conscience was in unison with the American conscience, where Hitler is concerned.

Eventually, truth will seep up through the rocks of deceit and reveal itself.

Actually Hitler was only nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. See link below.
Second, if Hitler had visited the US he would have been treated like a foreign dignitary. The US was actually in full support of Hitler when he first came to power... And the US remained neutral in the war until Pearl Harbour (1941), because it did not affect them until then.

Funny, the US also showed up late to WWI... 1917 I believe...

Probably like any other Nobel Prize Winner - which he was!

And if you think Not - then check it out!

The only Prize our Deserter President Bush got was the Boobie Prize when Daddy bought him his Honorable Discharge from K-Mart!

He would have been controversial. People had some idea of his policies, but they didn't understand the full extent of his plans.
