I agree with what Jeffrey has wroten.I couldn't believe that an american could ever produce a movie which will really represent the greek mind.Though he managed to do it very well.Well,a few misleadings do exist but the total result is great.I adored it.I said to myself"Had we been waiting for americans to make a film about us?.The greek cinema is always so busy dealing with sex,divorces,cheatings,desperate loves that has no time for something more essential!".When I was going to watch the movie I was thinking that it will be just a copy of the two previous horrible films-Great Alexander and Troy!Luckily it wasn't.
P.S.Hotgates?Well my greek girlfriend I also thought of it.They didn't say any word in greek.Μολών Λαβέ=Come and get them.Θερμοπύλες=Hotgates.And as for the very known "Ω ξειν,αγγέλλειν Λακεδαιμονίοις ότι τήδε κείμεθα τοις κείνων ρήμασι πειθόμενοι"I remember sth like By Spartan law we are lying.However it really motivated my patriotic feelings and thus I have only good words to say!!Well done!!!

Well its hard to say. From one point of view it sparks international interest for Greece and Greek history which is good.
It was also impressive but to bloodthirsty.
I think the movie was a combined copy of The Gladiator
(music, scenes in the grain fields) and The Lord of the Rings (depiction of the Persians, monsters they used, battle scenes) And the director copied on more scene.
The scene where a Spartan kills a Rhino!!!!! with he's spear and the rhino stops just before his feet. I don't remember in which movie i saw an extremely similar scene. maybe Starwars or Lord of The Ring

If you ask me, I would say that I did. But, here in Greece, nobody is sure that he is right. Some archeologists assume that it lags many things. The most common is that the Spartians did not have a mustache or a beard. Actually a greek myth says that a spy Kserksis sent came back and said that he saw the spartians combind their hair and cutting their mustaches. Also, something that is wrong even in our mythology is that they were actually 301 and not 300.

To be honest, I haven't watched the film yet but i ll during this week time
The fact that Hollywood makes movies out of Greek Mythology and History makes us really proud! and satisfied cause it is a kind of recognition for our fights and our rich past.
As Troy- I think this movie will have many dark spots, meaning that it would have been many historical mistakes in it.
But this is not of big importance cause they are not Greeks and they couldn't have known history in details.
For all of us it is a great opportunity to relive history through that movie and take important lessons from past
I just hope there will be more movies about Greek history
Regards

I live in Greece and everyone I know who has seen it has really liked it. As a matter of fact, I'm talking to a Greek friend via IM right now and he saw it last week...says that he and all of his friends thought it was good. He wrote the following:
i liked it so much... i want to see it again... i couldn't believe that an american would ever do such a movie for greeks

appearing replaced into in basic terms extra theatrical, not extra effectual or worse. Actors and directors have been nevertheless making that transition from stay theater to action picture, and the standard hadnt ben set yet. you will see that an particularly sparkling replace to extra "real" styled appearing whilst the 60`s hit. That being mentioned, so some distance as American video clips circulate, check out Terrance Malick..he takes men like Richard Gere and makes them into real attainable people...and make contact with me bias yet i presumed Bjork replaced into superb in Dancer at middle of the night, to no longer point out Catherine Denevue...hell, something shes in...

Yes - I'm from Greece and I enjoyed the film very much.
But it has as much to do with historical accuracy as Star Wars.
But I go to the movies to be entertained, not to have a history lesson !

here is the trailer of the movie;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhi5x7V3WXE
i think it is a great film; maybe it has some exaggeration about the stuff;
300 spartans vs hundreds of thousands of persians!
but if u watch the trailer, u ll see that it has great visual effects; it makes u remember the film, "lord of the rings"...
im going to watch it in the cinema on tuesday...
