I had a friend who moved here when I was younger and she spoke Portuguese and I did not. I was her first friend here and we were friends for many years. I cared about helping her even thought we often had very little idea of what the other was saying. Eventually she learned good english, but language is not what binds people. I have family who only speaks german so our conversations are very limited as i am not fluent, its about connection and communication of the soul not just words.

Rarely so. It's hard to understand someone without speaking the same language. In my book, a true friend is someone who sticks by you when you are down and celebrates with you when you are up. It's someone you trust. It is someone who understands you, knows the real you and appreciates the person you are. I never had such relationships with people who don't really speak my language. But then again, that's just my experience.

yea i guess you can say that. but a friend is also someone who will be ther for you when u need him or her and some one who will tell you the truth wether you get mad or not. a friend is someone who takes way your alcohol and throws it away even if you get mad and a friend is someone who would give his life for you. Someone like Jesus.
