Okay I've thought about this long and hard and I've decided to harvest/sell my eggs. The only problem is, I don't know where to start. Who do I contact? Is this going to be a major surgery? How much work would I wind up missing? Would birth control affect my chances of having viable eggs? I will be asking my gyn at my next appointment. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

Okay I am 21 yrs and heartbeats and life don't start until the eggs are fertile. Health class teaches us that. Also what is so morally wrong with wanting to help people that can't concieve by having eggs available for them to use?

Hi, I've donated eggs before and I have to say that it wasn't painful, didn't mess up my body, and no, a needle wasn't stuck through my pelvic region, lol.

Like you are planning to do, discussing it with your GYN is step one. He or she can let you know if you'd be a good candidate or not. He/she can also refer you to a good local fertility clinic as well.

The egg retrieval is not "major surgery," but it is technically surgery. This may vary from clinic to clinic, but I had to wear the hospital garb (gown, cap & booties), I was given an IV of antibiotics (to prevent infection) and fluids, I was sedated (but not asleep), and I had the oxygen tubes up my nose (to make sure I got plenty of oxygen while being sedated). It all looked like I was going in for serious surgery, but the procedure was quick and painless. We're talking 20 min.s in there. If you're like me (and most) you won't even remember what happened in the OR.

Afterwards, you're rolled out of the OR and pretty much good to go home where you'll probably spend the rest of the day and night sleeping off the sedation meds. Somebody will need to drive you home, of course. I was given an Rx for pain medicine, but didn't even need to use them. I experienced bloating after the egg retrieval, which concerned me at first, because I gained 2 inches and 2 pounds. However, this was normal and temporary. It went away in a week.

As far as taking off work, you'll of course need to be off the day of egg retrieval and the day after. I wished I'd taken off the whole week after my retrieval, because I needed that week to REST, relax, and let my body do its thing. I'd suggest the same for any other woman donating. Resting is very important---even if you feel fine and ready to go. Rest.

Birth control won't have any effect on the quality or quantity of your eggs. You actually have to take birth control for a few weeks before you begin the hormone injections. And if you're wondering, the injections are daily for about a month. Sometimes you'll have two injections a day. Some are sub-q --- small 1/2 inch needles---and some are IM----longer 1-2 inch needles given in the muscle. None were painful to me, and I even gave myself the sub-q ones in my tummy! No problem!

I think it's great to share your eggs with a woman who would otherwise be unable to become pregnant herself. If you are healthy and willing, then why not donate? Good luck! Hope this helped!

Ok. Talk to your gyneclogist or a fertility clinic.
There is no major surgery but having your eggs harvested is very difficult and painful. You have to take daily injections of hormones to make your eggs rip(fertile). The hormone injections will mess you up big time. You get very sick from them. You'll have the symptoms of a pregnacy, except extremely bad. You'll get morning sickness all the time, headaches, nausea, ect. You wont menstrate.
Then when you are ready to ovulate. They take a needle and stick it in through your pelvic region and gently extract your eggs.
Birth control will effect chances of having viable eggs.

Im sorry if the brief description scares or frightens you.

3 of my friends had it done. It was horrible what they went through.
