Ever since they replaced that floating black ball thing in the tank, it smells like sewer and the water is dirty looking. And it clogs a lot more often now.

It is a coincidence. Changing the ball cannot affect the drain. I would say that you have a clogged drain pipe.

I agree with sensible but, if when they changed the black ball thingy and did not set the tank fill level properly it could lead to more frequent blockages, also if they removed the toilet for some reason and didn't fully remove the old seal before re installation this would also lead to more blockages.

If you are on a septic take you need to have it pumped, If your on city sewer they might have a back up happening and the float change is just a coincidence

Are you on a septic tank ? if so have it pumped out , I am not sure how much it cost where you live , here in SC it cost me $250.00 because my kids flushed a happy meal toy ..

You could have roots in your main pipe.
