Nature made flying bugs long before artificial lights. Bugs navigate in the dark by holding the light from a distant star at a constant angle. because the star is millions of miles away the bug can fly in a straight line.
When the bug is very close to the light, it thinks that it's flying in a straight line, when actually it's going round and round.

I definitely have considered this, its in person-friendly words particular species of fly i imagine. They fly in sharp angles around the bulb quite slowly compared to elementary houseflies that buzz about in circles.

You'll always find a man's flies near his bulbs!! Mine aren't light though. I have to use a wheel-barrow.
