Nature made flying bugs long before artificial lights. Bugs navigate in the dark by holding the light from a distant star at a constant angle. because the star is millions of miles away the bug can fly in a straight line.
When the bug is very close to the light, it thinks that it's flying in a straight line, when actually it's going round and round.

I definitely have considered this, its in person-friendly words particular species of fly i imagine. They fly in sharp angles around the bulb quite slowly compared to elementary houseflies that buzz about in circles.

bugs are attracked to light by nature.

maybe with flies the bulbs also smell like poop

You'll always find a man's flies near his bulbs!! Mine aren't light though. I have to use a wheel-barrow.
