A sponge can absorbe too much of the foundation itself, a brush has little effect at all, and often people who apply foundation with their hands do it incorrectly, and leave unabsorbed mask-like lines that haven't been blended well. I personally find applying foundation is best when done so on a thin, damp cleansing cloth. The moisture of the cloth will absorbe excess foundation when blended onto the face, and generally leaves a very good application when blended.

I find it better to put on liquid foundation with my hands. If I put it on with a sponge I feel that the sponge will keep soaking up the foundation and there be not much on my face so I would have 2 keep applying.

If you put it on with a sponge you will get really bad acne. I know that because I went to get my make up done and was asking about that and she said that she put foundation on with a sponge and she was wondering why her acne wasn't going away it was because of the sponge. It holds in all the oil and things, stuff you don't want going on your face. Don't put it on with your hands because your hands have oil on them too.Put your foundation on with a brush so that you can just rinse it off with soap and water when you are finished. It also gives a more even look.

when applying foundation you should definitely use a sponge because there is allot of bacteria on your fingers and whatever your trying to cover up is just going to get worse by touching your face with your hands ... and when using your hands the foundation will be streaky you should wash your sponge with soap and hot water regularly so you don't get a build up of oils because that will cause streaks also

You should not use your hands. Your hands spread bacteria, and can cause break outs. Also, finger tips can often be too rough on the sensitive skin around your eyes, causing premature wrinkles. If your are using a loose powder foundation, use a brush. If you are using a cream type foundation, use a sponge. Hope this helps!! :)

I prefer to do it with a sponge because it holds more of the foundation so I don't have to keep putting more on my finger.

When I went to the MAC counter I was told that it is better to apply makeup w/ your hands if you are not a professional. Otherwise if you use the sponge your make-up could come out w/ streaks.

Use a wedge sponge for liquid foundation. If you use your hands you will get oil all over your face.
