All pain is mental pain. Whether it is depression over the death of a loved one or a stubbed toe, the pain must be recognized by the brain. And all pain is chemical as well. The chemicals in our bodies allow the brain to realize that something is wrong so we can fix the problem.

You live in a biological Machine. Well built mind you.
However there is a spirit within you called the spirit of man. It is something that separates us from animals.
When it is hurt or offended it reacts sending chemicals from the brain to the body when in it's self react in a physical way.
Thus, Mental Pain. So that makes it real to the person that individual spirit exists in.
(Pro 20:27) The spirit of man [is] the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
(Ecc 3:21) Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
(1Cr 2:11) For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
(Zec 12:1) The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.

A lot of mental problems begin as spiritual problems but as they take their toll on the body a doctor can see actual chemical processes, which is why drugs can help.
But avoiding what caused the "imbalance" in the first place is only solving half the the problem.

We are all just chemicals and energy. but it is a unique pattern made from different and unique patterns in an almost infinite variety. Thus we are different from one another and therefore do not feel like robots which are virtually identical.
Pain is all mental but never the less real.

mental pain is the awareness of pain the body goes through. mental pain occurs when I come to know a belief system has to be proven true. mental pain is when I must say good by. mental pain comes when i know that what i have said could be a lie. mental pain makes my tears, and gives light to all that i should not fear. mental pain comes when i learn to use new words and apply their meaning. mental pain leaves when the lies have all died.If it is chemical, then i know they are not all good for my life.

what you perceive is your own reality so if you feel sad than that is your reality chemicals or not and yet i have read articles saying that when a person's brain is touched in certain places it makes them feel an emotion.. that is without a situation... but the question is are you your emotion; does that define what a person is in their reality? it is a complex question that leads to many more.

All pain is mental. It does not occur in the place it is felt. And mental does not mean in the brain. Stop the thinking and the pain is not felt.
