I was interviewed today over the phone by the company and the job is in OH and i'm in different state. The interview person said we don't pay for travel expenses and will you come if you move to next step with u paying i said yes. Now I think about it it will cost me $500-600 for expenses. Should I email her back and say there was misunderstanding that I need travel expense covered or atleast shared.

I think if a company is really interested in you, they will provide some compensation. I have a friend, who was just flown out to the mid-west(we are in Va.)to a final interview. All of his expenses are paid.

If you are going to an interview first, and everything goes well with that, and they hire you, at that point it is perfectly acceptable to say that you want part of the expenses for relocating to be reimbursed by the company. You need to be firm about it, because otherwise they will get the idea that you are going to allow them to walk all over you.

Good luck with the interview!!

I would guess that if you called and claimed you now wanted travel expenses it would pretty much kill any opportunity for the job. So, it really boils down to how desparate you are for the job, and how important this opportunity is for you. If you're not going to the next interview unless they reimburse you, then you have nothing to lose by calling.

If they will not pay for moving expenses (and that sounds REALLY cheap to move, so you might want to double check that), you might want to consider renegotiating your salary to make up for some of the loss. They might be willing to pay you an extra grand or two a year, rather than shelling out your moving expenses.
