You go to Stormwind and talk to any of the guards (click them and theres an option to go to professions) and go to the professions you want and they will put a marker for those profession trainers on your mini map.

go to a major city and ask a guard. i'm not sire if all major cities on the alli side have engineering trainers because i know thunder bluff doesn't have one. Ironforge will have one for sure. also don't try to ask the gaurds in the royal quarter of stormwind or where ever it's called i remember being stuck in stormwind right after i got off the tram and looking for a gaurd to ask and none fo them would talk to me, i had to go to the front entrance to find a gaurd who would actually give me information.
but before you do that you should consider which professions will benefit your character. if you have some alts that have professions then don't pick the same proffesions as them, but if this is your first character you should pick a more suitable profession than blacksmithing because your mage won't use the armor made by blacksmiths. as a mage i'd go tailoring/skinning or tailoring/herb (some tailoring recipes call for potions or leather, if you go herb you'll atleast have the ingrediants for the potions) mining/engineering is also good because engineers need the metal to make things even though all of the armor they make is cloth so a cloth wearing class is the best choice for an engineer. herbalism/alchemy would also be a good choice or mining/jewelcrafting

Go to Stormwind, the largest human town near your start point, and right click one of the town guards to start a conversation (you have to be standing pretty close.) Click Profession trainers, then Blacksmithing and it will add an arrow and a dot to your map and mini-map showing you where the trainer is. Repeat that for any other profesion, all the basic trainers are in Stormforge.
Please note you can learn only two professions and the two professions you have listed really require a gather profession to go with them. Minning is all but required for Blacksmith and Engineering without massive gold to buy materials. Herblism is a gather skill and should go with Alchemy, which is the only profession that uses what Herblism gathers.
Blacksmith is almost useless for a mage, since you can't use anything it makes. Engineering is also sorta useless, you can't use a lot of what it makes, (guns and sights) and other things are less useful for you since you class can already do them (dynamite and the explosives.)
Alchemy is more useful, since you can use almost all the potions for something, and sell the rest.
Traditionally most people recommend Tailor/Enchanting for a mage, since the skills don't need a gather skill and tailoring creates armore a mage can use. Enchanting is pretty expensive though, since you have to break down good items you would normally sell to get material.
If you are take either Tailor or Enchating and using a gather profesion to make money, you should take either mining or skinning.
Mining can make a lot of money, but you have to compeat for the mining points and constatnly pay to increase your refining options (though with Jewlcrafting, you might not want to refine it before you sell it.) You do get more than one thing from refining nodes, but they are generally less in demand than the metal. You can build up skil fast by refining what you mine, at least a first.
Skinning requires you kill skinable monsters, but other than buying your skill cap increaes, it is cost free in that requard. Since you are going to be hunting anyway, you can skin what you kill to make money on the side. Build up your skill fast by going into an appropiatly leveled area and kill everything that moves.

Go to Stormwind, the major Human city, and right-click on a guard. As him about Professions, and then select the one you'd want. I wouldn't go for Blacksmithing or Engineering, though, as Mages can't use most of the items in those professions. I would suggest Tailoring, as you can make Cloth armor to wear (it's the only type you can use. Since you can choose two professions, I would choose Enchanting because of its overall usefulness (but beware, it's very costly to use) or a "gathering" skill, when you get supplies (as a Tailor you will be using cloth, which cannpt be aquired by a gathering skill). Gathering skills are Herbalism, Skinning, and Mining. I would choose Mining, as it is the easiest to level and makes the most money. You'd make money by selling stack (items in amounts of 20) at the Auction House found in Stormwind. I hope I helped and this wasn't too much for you.

Well the previous answer told u. But it would be better to take tailoring and jewel crafting for a mage. It will be more beneficial for u.
Have fun and good luck.

Head to one of your major cities like Iron Forge. Ask a guard for the location of the profession trainer. He will mark him on your map for you.
